Actually, your biggest worry is worrying about the ants eating your house... The ants are but a SYMPTOM - you need, if you can, to find the problem. Often difficult to do and sometimes impossible. Having luck sometimes come in to play too.
Will the ants move out? Certainly not, if they like it just where they are. And even though they might be occasionally "there," doesn't mean anyone should be too concerned. In the spring you have a routine "awakening" - you can blame Mother Nature.
For repairs/alterations to any damaged wood, use pressure treated wood and also avoid any earth-to-wood contact.
I know MI, I remember, I used to live there! Still go up almost every year to meet up with some of my high school buddies. So I know you can get those wild temp swings that I think are the main reasons we have these seasonal surges.
If you wait, you might save time, trouble and money. If you still have to "do something," you still can.
