Hi John - when you need advice you go to the best so here
i am!!!! I am plagued with small ants on my ground level brick patio...some are so tiny you can hardly see them and others are still small but a bit bigger. They are digging up all the sand between bricks and i have mounds all over. A few years ago I had an exterminator but he would not treat the patio, just the house foundation and about a foot out but it only helped for a little while and since my daughter has been very sick and besides severely immune compromised is allergic to chemicals too I did not call him back and have been trying to control them myself. We do not get water in the basement unless we have a week of rain, etc. as we live at the bottom of a hill and we get added hill runoff.
This year seems worse as they have expanded into the grass area also and the patio is full of sand hills. In the past I have put out KM Antpros and they worked really great. This year it took a long time to attract them and finally when they were munching away I had to take them away because I had the algae washed off my roof and the baits were in the way (ladders & wasn't sure if the stuff's odor would be all over the baits).
Since my patio is unusable as i see the mounds all over again I tried hosing the sand off a bit before replacing the baits. I heard I can not place a bait station over a nest but it is hard to find open spaces at this point so is that really true?? Also how long before putting the baits back as I know they were mad with the disturbance - first the roof stuff and then me with the hose. How long before I put them back? When they work, they do work but if they are not attracted to them??? I have one full strength and one half coke and half Gourmet Liquid. Since the Gourmet is for both sweet and protein lovers I figured I was all set. I also cover the ones on the patio with kid chairs to prevent them from getting too hot from the sun.
Please any advice as I think eventually I will have a sunken in patio and with a very sickly child can not afford to get it replaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
