Thanks, John. Once again I appreciate the advice and wisdom.

As "luck" would have it, I found termites in my mulch while doing a spring cleaning today. I found tiny, clear-yellow bugs. They looked exactly like the pics of subterranean termite pics from your website.

I have a fieldstone foundation and a new concrete foundation under an addition to the house. The house is otherwise newly built as of mid 2016. The mulch is along a small section that was bumped out from the fieldstone to make an enclosed porch. There is a crawl space underneath. The walls are made of Durock and framed with wood.

I'm trying to be rational about this. I assume I should remove the mulch. Additionally, I inspected the aforementioned crawl space. I did not see any termite activity or mud tubes.

Should I try your suggestion of laying sand, a membrane, and then gravel in the affected area? Or should I called a local exterminator for a consult and below ground treatment before I lay gravel?

Thanks again.

Jon
