Hmmmm. Doesn't sound like ants to me, Brian... Before you get panicky or anything, I would give it a few days, a weather change maybe. In the meantime, for reference later, see if you can save a sample, that isn't squashed. In case you need it later, for a proper ID.

Probably an outside bug that found its way inside. Check the basement if you have one. Put the light on down there, 24/7, then check near the light every once in awhile.

No chemicals until/unless you know what it is.
