I have a beautiful older dogwood next to my house. I make sure to keep all branches trimmed and away from the house. Last spring/summer, the tree came under attack from a woodpecker. I wanted it taken down, but no one I called in would do it. They said it was a great tree with a minor flaw. Well... that minor flaw is now housing carpenter ants - I can sit and watch them go in and out. They are also stalking the siding of the house (3 sides brick/front is siding). Not huge amounts yet, but the "every time I turn around there is another" amount. I sprayed around the siding as a deterrent and placed powdered bait (Terro) around the base of the tree. Pest control comes Tuesday to check it out, and I have never been ripped off by them. They are honest about something needing or not needing to be done. I have 2 questions: 1) what can I do to keep them from my house until then (maybe direct them to my neighbor's!), and 2) am I wrong that this is probably the demise of the tree? Thanks. You guys are great!
