It DOES take awhile to control the roaches, it is not instantaneous. And it is NOT advisable for you to use insecticides, they may well counteract what the exterminator uses.

Yes, the kitchens and bathrooms are the main targets, but if someone asks me to treat other parts of the apartment, I do so. And you shouldn't spray vents.

The "best" insecticide depends on many factors. Presumably, the exterminator knows what to do. Usually, I use roach baits along with other methods. It sounds as though these apts have a serious problem. You need to have a serious discussion with the management.
