After solving my squirrels-in-the-roof problem, now I continue with the Box Elder Beetle problem. My neighbors and I live on wooded properties so cutting down trees is futile.
I must have the perfect attraction for the bugs, a stone face (fake), sunny side of the house that must keep the critters nice and warm. This year the population seems to be fierce. Snow and the coldest weather doesn't bother the bugs.
I've tried a detergent solution and even added some bleach to get the bugs extra clean. It works to an extent but my pump sprayer cannot reach the second floor. A vacuum cleaner has the same problem. I've tried a commercial insecticide but it is expensive and I have no confidence in it unless I hit the bugs directly.
Any bugs that do get indoors, I squash their little heads between my fingers (use your favorites) so that I don't crush their bodies and get juice anything.
My neighbors only live 20 & 30 feet away respectively and I do not see bugs on their walls (they have vinyl siding).
I think I will try Malathion next and hope I can find it in powder form.
