I have Jersy Giants, white Leghorns, Silkies, Phoenix and mixed breeds that help with the bugs, but the most adament bug hunter is a Red Jungle Fowl hen. The Jungle Fowl is the breed that all chickens descend from. I guess she has a strong primitive instint to forage for bugs. We have landscape rock at the base of the tree. Every day that tiny little hen moves 20 or more pounds of rocks to get at the few surviving bugs. It is a pain in the butt putting the rocks back every day, but we do have the ultimate revenge on the bugs. After years of having tons of them getting in the house, we now have chickens that eat them, and we get to eat the hen's eggs. And we don't have any of those Nasty Asian lady bugs this year either. So if anybody gets chickens for bug control, I would recommend the Red Jungle Fowl.
