I saw a mouse in my unfinished basement yesterday evening (just moved into this house in Spring) and noticed that it was happily living off a bag of sunflower seeds. I removed the sunflower seeds immediately (last night itself), set up a trap and this morning threw out the dead mouse.
My unfinished basement only has cardboard boxes, my son's toys and sunflower seeds was the only food item. While I was cleaning out the boxes, I saw another mouse! I have set 4 traps for it tonight and hope it gets caught.
But the thing is that while clearing the basement, I found the nest. Those mice were taking the sunflower seeds from the bad and storing/eating it while cuddled inside a pile of heavy curtains. I threw the curtains out as well. Now that the mouse has lost its spouse, its nest and its food item, is it going to venture out to the 2 floors above? The dead mouse and the one that's alive were about the size of a closed fist.
Please let me know what else do I need to do. How will I know if there are any more mice? Do I need to sanitize my son's toys from the basement?
