A few days ago my 6 year old said there were 4 dead bees on the bottom of our playset slide. I was concerned, but not overly until I found 19 healthy looking, but dead, bees (7 female, 12 male) two days later in the mulch around the base of the playset. I've since learned they are Carpenter bees. I have located several holes and tunnels in the beams of the playset, but I don't hear or see any live bees by them. I have seen only one live bee in the bushes near the set. Any ideas why they are all dead? The playset is made out of redwood and I've been assured it's wood was never treated with CCA or the like (my thought was they have been poisoned). The mulch is Kids Karpet which also is supposedly non-toxic. I am perplexed and concerned! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have an exterminator secheduled for next Wednesday.
