I just opened up a 5 year old mountain cabin today (Eastern Oregon/Blue Mountains) - found a little "pile" (1/3 cup, total?) of very fine sawdust sitting on top of carpet at the base of a post for knotty pine railing in my loft area. (It's an interior railing, the post is attached to an interior wall - about 6 ft. from an exterior wall) with no indication of moisture.) I looked for a culprit, but didn't see anything in close proximity. I did find one large ant (carpenter?) about 12 hours later - several feet from the site. Note: There are large black ants around the exterior of cabin, but rarely do I see any ants inside (except close to the exterior), a "normal" spring occurance after the snow melts. For three years, I have had a local pest guy come and spray for ants and bees...but after reading a bit of this website, I'm unsure what to do.
Panic?
