While strolling around our back yard yesterday, I suddenly felt like a bee was stinging my leg. When I looked down, lo and behold, there's a red and black ant absolutely gnawing at my calf. The resulting bite / sting is absolutely enormous - painful, burning and itchy. I guess I'm lucky I only got stung by one though: I later noticed a gazillion of these ants on the stone wall at the back of our property. I tried spraying them with the stuff that I use for our seasonal carpenter ant friends but ohmigod - I had to turn and run because these ants were chasing me - big time. So far, none have gotten in our house and hopefully it will stay that way. I'm not exaggerating when I say there are a "gazillion" of them. So I think the task of trying to eliminate them by myself is both probably unsafe and impossible. So my question about the fire ants is: should I just leave them to their own device ?? Any advice you can give would be helpful - I'm half afraid to go out in the back yard now because these critters are nasty ! (and there's soooo many of them) Thanks so much.
