We have a stone wall (like a retaining wall) in the backyard. I just noticed what looks like a very precise cut out hole in the dirt right next to the stonework (leading to the wall of the stone). It's probably about 3 inches or so in diameter. It looks odd because it's very precise in its cut. We have two dogs, and if they were digging, there is no way it would look like that. I put a flashlight down in it to look and it appears to go down about maybe a foot. I see pieces of black stuff down at the bottom. Too big for bunny or chipmunk droppings I would think. We do have tons of bunnies in the area and squirrels, but I don't think it would be either of those. Any idea at all what this might be? There's no mound of dirt at the top or sides of it.
