Something died.... The flies are the end result. They'll go away in a few days, and no, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it.

I wouldn't use an insecticide, that's nasty stuff to be spraying around, trying to kill a flying bug. Wait til they accumulate on the windows and use Windex to disable them and crush them with a paper towel or something.
