John- Thanks for the reply. I'm not really sure that your diagnosis (?) is correct. I scoured the basement for any sort of decay/dead animal. This is an ABSURD amount of flies, and they don't seem to be congregating in any one place(like they would if there were leaves decaying or a dead animal decaying, other than by any light that I happen to turn on.

They also do not look like normal houseflies- they are much bigger (maybe 150% the size of what you'd swat away at a picnic). Any other ideas?

Also, if there *is* something dead decaying in my basement, how did the flies get in in the first place?
