For the past year....yes, year, we've been dealing with a major fruit fly problem....well, at least I think they are fruit flies. I've looked at pictures and descriptions of various flies on the web, and this is the closest match I think. I have a feeling that they are coming from the kitchen sink area.....that's where they always seem to concentrate. You'll always find the most of them flying around there. One day I did however discover that my brother's guinea pig cage wasn't been kept clean, and he had guinea pig food sitting open....as soon as I looked in the bag, tons of these things started flying out. We made him move his guinea pig outside to the barn area thinking that would help.....well, it did help for awhile....the number of them that we would see definitly went down.....but now they're coming back, and I am completely puzzled.....I have done everything I can think of....I have poured bleach down the drains....I have boiled huge pots of water and poured that down the drains....I even purchased some of that expensive BioFoam crap.....and that did nothing. They are becoming such a nuisance.....they almost practically attack the food we're eating when we sit down for dinner....we're constantly swatting them away. We have looked everywhere else they could possibly be....and nothing. What am I to do? I have provided a link to a picture I took one day when there were a ton of them caked on a sponge by the sink.
