Thanks again for the follow up. There is no evidence of other critters around, inside or out. Pretty much the coyotes have taken care of rabbit-size things. My house was built in 1792 so has a lot of places mice -- and other things -- can get in and hide. I'm a city-born person, having moved to the country just a few years ago, so while I don't mind the mice or having to catch them myself since my husband died, I am minding the smell. Whatever it is, I'm trusting, as you said, that it will eventually go away.
