Not sure what roaches you have there, or even where you are, but I doubt your problem comes from 'across the street' as you say, but roaches like what you describe can survive on the outside, so you could get those anytime, not just from a neighbor.

The little apartment roaches (German roach) cannot survive on the outside and does not fly. If you have German roaches, they were likely brought in to your house either by you or someone else. And yes, it could have been from the person you helped move.

Find out what kind you have - take a few samples to your county agricultural agent for an ID.
