Hmmmm. Your IP says you're in Cali? If so, and if those little "grains" look all the same, sort of like tiny little barrels, and they're the same color as the wood, it's drywood termites, it's their fecal pellets they eject from their galleries.
Your picture is a bit fuzzy, so I can't tell for sure from here, but that's what it looks like. Here's a couple of pictures of drywood fecal pellets:
You didn't say how long you have been in that house, but if it's only been a short time, you might want to contact the exterminator that inspected your house for your settlement. In any case, make sure you save some samples for the exterminator to examine.
The best and most effective treatment for drywoods is fumigation - sometimes a very expensive proposition, depending on the size and complexity of your house. There are other treatments, but none of them are as good or effective as fumigation.
