I've had rats for 2 months and can't rid of them. They first appeared after a squirrel made a hole in the attic vent (another ongoing problem). I used my electronic mouse killer and bought those pre-baited mouse traps because I thought they were mice. I've used cheese, peanut butter, chocolate, and sandwich meat. The baby rat ignores it. I also bought a electronic rat killer. They seem to come mostly from the fireplace like the mice in the past. I covered the gaps with steel wool. They actually pushed some of it out.

All the food is out of reach although they've chewed paper. I think they might be living inside the couch. There are droppings almost everywhere, on the dining table, furniture, beds, etc. Are they looking for food?

As much as I want to use poison, I don't want them dying inside the house. Is there anything I can use to lure them in the traps or hire a professional? It's been very uncomfortable to be at home knowing the rats could jump on us.
