OK as you know I have a possum that likes hanging out for some odd reason on the fence in my backyard. I know you said that they really dont stay around much. Could there possibly be something wrong with this animal. Because from the things I read its not doing what it should. They are not suppose to like light or so the website I was reading said. I have a street lamp thats pretty bright right behind my house that lights up the backyard cant read by it but you can tell if somethings in the yard..

I saw it tonight so I shined a flashlight into its face it did nothing. I stood there for a good ten minutes waiting for it to do something. Nope I unfortunately hit it with a stick not very hard just trying to get it to move. Nope didn't budge. It just sits there starting at me. It doesn't hiss or bare its teeth or even play dead it does nothing. And if they like the dark why is it hanging out on the fence closer to the light.

Could this possum be sick. And if its sick should I get a professional to remove it instead of trying to trap it myself. I am sure I could trap it myself. Since the part of the fence he likes to hang on is the same part where I put the trap for the squirrels. And when he does move he runs down the alley under the light past the dog that lives next door. I would think he would run towards the part of the lot that is dark.

Right now I really cant afford to have a professional come out to trap unless this possum might be sick and a danger to the stray cats I take care of.I do not feed the cats in my backyard. And I know the possum is not getting the dogs food he's out there 24hrs a day and its a Rottweiler and he's too busy trying to catch it when it runs past the yard.

And I really dont want to kill it. I will if forced to he is kinda cute but he is also as big as my indoor cat. I am just really concerned that the possum when confronted did not show any sort of defensive or aggressive behavior. No hissing nothing. Also I read on a website that they don't like ammonia. That I should spray my backyard with ammonia to be used as a repellant. Is this true.

John thanks for all your help you guys are awesome.
