Wow - $250 bucks! They're sure not cutting you any breaks, huh? And the exterminator should have AT LEAST come inside, just to check the inside conditions....
The centipedes outside are cyclical - some years are worse than others. And they do like moisture. Keep your plantings thinned out and clean up the leaf litter too.
Actually, the snakes are GOOD! They are actually helping you with the problem. And they're harmless to you. Don't worry about them.
As far as chemical treatment, sure, you can definitely try yourself. Use a granular insecticide, get it at the local garden store, don't buy too much, it does have a shelf life. Keep it in a moisture-free environment. Check the label, make sure centipedes are on the label. This is for OUTSIDE, not inside. If you don't have them inside, you don't need to treat inside.
Sprinkle it around the house, where the mulch and your plantings are - kinda like how you might put salt & pepper on your eggs. For small areas, I just use my hands - just wash up afterwards and DON'T EAT ANY! lol
Let us know how it goes!
