I pulled out a shelf unit to clean the carpet and discovered a pile of what looks like dog food. It was crawling with little black bugs, the pieces were riddled with holes and the bottom of the shelf also had holes burrowed into it. I sucked up everything I could with the carpet shampooer and put the shelf outside. How the dog food got there is a mystery but I suspect it was mice as I live in a rural area and every 2 or 3 years, mice will try to move in either in the fall or spring. I haven't seen any for a couple years, nor due I recognize the dog food, so I suspect it has been there for quite a while. The shelf was against a wall and after cleaning the whole disgusting mess up, a few bugs are coming out where the carpet meets the wall. I sprayed Raid all along the wall last night and this morning the bugs that had emerged were dying. I checked again this afternoon and there were about 30 more dead bugs. At least there are less of them and they are dying and I am hoping that with the food source gone, they will disappear but but I have no idea how many more there might be and what damaged they might be doing. I don't like using Raid either. I have included a link to photos in Dropbox. Can you tell me what they are and how to get rid of them? They are about 1/8" long. Thank you!
