Hi John,
I sent an email which you can disregard since I re read what I wrote and realize there's no reason not to post it and perhaps it will help someone. But I don't know which board to post it on. So I'll try this one.

Not sure where to post it.
let me describe my old house, living room.
I have a bookcase on the back wall, windows above the bookcase, very high old ceilings with lathe and plaster.
I've been seeing black dust/droppings? not like from mice... on the rug and on further inspection it seems to be coming from above, cause there are more of the dust on the top of the case and falling a little onto the shelves.
I completely cleaned it and then a few hours later found a bit more. If I look up to my very high ceilings, I don't see holes or anything and I can't find any dust on the sill of the very high clerestory windows...but they are made of wood. I will get a friend to help me get up there again with a magnifier. But the dust is coming from somewhere. I did see one lone ant (wingless) walking across the bookcase when I went up there once.
I put a paper towel there yesterday and it is catching the dark specs. Quite a bit, in one day it looks like maybe almost a teaspoon but I have left the towel there.
Does this ring any bells at all?
Or can you point me to a the type of problem solver to find?
Oh also, there is a light, a sconce in the general area and it had a bunch of dead bugs in it but cleaned that out also.
Thanks for listening John
