Hi everyone and thank you in advance for your answers!

Two nights ago I came home (Melbourne) from a week-long visit to Darwin. I was in the process of stripping the bedding when I noticed welts/bites starting to appear all over my body. They have now gone down in swelling but are still very much there and still itch from time to time.
The bites could only have come from the bedding which at this stage included the sheet, pillow cases, a synthetic brown bear rug type blanket and the normal blanket still in its cover
1. Welts appeared only on the areas that touched the bedding and especially where I was holding the blanket before putting it on the floor.
2. I put my forearm down and held for a few seconds on the synthetic blanket and a few minutes later a couple of welts appeared on it as well.
I immediately threw it out into the outside bin and sprayed it with Mortein.

Here is the tricky bit:
I had an exterminator out the next day(initial visit was free) who after hearing my story and checking around with a torch for a few minutes basically said that I should see a doctor as these are not bites but probably an allergy to something because he couldn't find anything that might have caused them!
I've since gone through the bedding in gloves and with a torch and found what looks like carpet beetle larvae and one flour bug and am in the process of washing, drying and vacuuming everything so might find some more culprits then. But I slept on the bed last night with only new sheets, no other treatments and don't seem to have any new welts. Also, the dogs seem to be completely unaffected and they are up to date with flee/tick treatments. The welts are definitely bites from some kind of insect not an allergy but what the hell bit me?

PLEASE HELP
