I guess just like us, squirrels do have different levels of anxiety. And they have different personalities. I had one that died within 20 minutes, before I could get there, so upset at having been caught.

I've also seen a few squirrels, just hunker down in the cage, without making a sound. If you can't get to him right away, cover the trap and he'll quiet down.
