I live in a rural area, have squirrels in my attic and wall, and have a 1040 trap. Once I trap the animals I plan to shoot them, since that sounds like the most humane way to approach the infestation problem. If I shoot a squirrel while it is in the trap, and then rinse the trap, will the residual smell of blood and such ruin the trap and scare off other squirrels that I need to catch?
