I catch squirrels in unbaited traps, and I hardly ever have trouble with any baiting and I use (mostly) just peanut butter .
The squirrels are eating the tree because they LIKE it. Chum the ground with birdseed, it'll attract the birds and the squirrels will come to see what's going on...
Have the traps waiting. I use strictly the 1040s - never have a problem and I usually leave both doors open.
You feeding the wildlife? What attracted the squirrels there in the first place?
Just keep on trapping. You're not using your brain. Go thru both my squirrel pages, read everything, including all the popups. Look at every picture, many of them have text.
After you have absorbed that, you'll be better equipped to do the job right.
