After a week or so of noticing the sounds of critter(s) in my attic, I finally saw a squirrel in the attic (twice), and I've found what I'm pretty sure is the main entry point. Since it's on the roof, I've got a handyman friend who can help me seal the hole soon.

In the mean time, I got the havahart trap (7.5" two door model from home depot). At first, I put a small bin with breaded peanut butter near the path he probably uses to get to the entry point. His actual nesting spot is nearly inaccessible, above a vaulted ceiling...I'm not crawling in there. So the trap is within 2 feet of where he walks to get in/out...I saw him there.

I checked the trap daily, no action, but still a squirrel. I re-baited, spreading peanut butter directly on the trip plate, sprinkling in some bird seed. This morning I heard him making his trip out.

So 3 days and he keeps walking by the trap. Am I being impatient, or do I need to place the trap somewhere else, or try different bait (other than peanut butter)?

Ugghh.
