You are probably right about the stain.

There are a lot of traps out there, I think the spring-loaded ones might not be so good for squirrels, I usually advise the Hava-hart 1040. But again, that's up to you. I just can't usually give advice to someone that is using a trap I'm not familiar with, and the trap might be the problem.

Sometimes they leave on their own, you just never know. But even if they do, they might come back to give you more problems.
