And squirrels raised in a structure will tend to look at structures as a potential home. It seems if there's a high population in the immediate area, you'll have the same pups returning as adults, often to the same structure.
Squirrels kicked out of a structure will seek to get back in. If they are unsuccessful, or not persistent enough, they do look for an easy way out, another structure that is open for use.
All you need in a neighborhood is a homeowner who doesn't care (or doesn't know) that he has squirrels in his attic. That house can breed monsters for the rest of the neighborhood. Insert a couple of well-meaning homeowners that feed these creatures and you have the makings of a squirrel blitz....
