You don't really have to get the "trap near the hole." Set up a light, where it's easy to attend to the trap, make them come to you. Leave that light on 24/7.

And remember, squirrels have an innate curiosity, so if they find PB in a trap, they'll be looking for it again. Can't tell you how many I've trapped in an UNbaited trap....

If you're using the 1030-40, once they're trapped, they seek a way out, making noises with the metal treadle. You should hear that over a baby monitor.
