Same thing happened to us one time several years ago. Found a semi-dead squirrel in the living room dying from shock from all the bugler alarm noise inside the house. We searched for holes, etc. and couldn't find anything. As we search we noticed what we think was how the squirrel got in. There is part of our house that we just don't use, and sometime in the past I had turned off the valve that fills the commode in a bathroom. Eventually, the water in the commode evaporated. We think that the squirrel climbed into the soil pipe that was open on the roof climbed through the pipes and eventually found a way through the commode into the house. Where he set off the bugler alarms. This also means that is is pretty common to have squirrels running around inside the pipes in the house, they just won't go through the water in the commode-- usually.
