I live in Austin, TX and heard squirrels scurrying around 2 months ago just when winter started. I called a big pest control company and they proofed all entry points with hardware cloth. The entry point was confirmed to be one of my bathroom vents that was about 12 ft from the ground on the exterior side wall of the house.
The hardware cloth has been on for 2 days. The first one was weakly held with 2 screws and the squirrel(s) ripped it out. The second one has been fastened more heavily and layered as well. Yet they seem to be chewing on it and progressively cutting through it. Just a matter of time before they break in.
I have 2 questions:
1) What works better than HW cloth?
2) Since it is my sub floor, I am worried anyone can pull them out if they are trapped and die in there.
