Thought I'd share this with "The Regulars."

So I'm in here Sunday evening, all alone, and I hear a knock at the back door. I peek out the drawn blinds (I'm a hermit) to see the neighbor lady from up the street. She looks distraught. So I open the door to see what's up. She IS distraught. (I guess I'm a sucker for distraught ladies.) She says she has an "animal" in her basement living room, can I help her?

What can I say? So I walk up to her house with her, on the way up she says it looks like a rat - or something. It's sitting in the corner of the sofa, not moving, everybody in the house is scared to death. Including her son who must be 6'6" and scares me.

It's a squirrel. Not only that, it's a BABY squirrel. As I approach the squirrel, he doesn't move. I can tell he not dead, but he barely moves, even when I'm only a foot or two away. I had brought my animal net, but this little guy would slip right through, the net is for raccoons & stuff.

Within a minute or two, I realize he wasted. He's had no water for a few days, I pick him up by the scruff of the neck, he doesn't struggle at all. I take him outside and heave him into the woods in the back of the house.

She asks me how much she owes me, I told her to forget about it. As I leave, she stuffs a 20 dollar bill in my shirt.

Oh, happy day.

---John
