Well, that certainly sounds like a really tough job.... You didn't say how much of an areas this is, but if it's more than a couple of acres, I predict it might be a full time job, at least for a couple of years.
I deal with squirrels in an urban environment, not in a place such as you describe, and I don't know all of the details that would help me answer your questions reliably. I think a big part of it would be the total area you are concerned about and the present squirrel population.
I think a good idea might be to call one of the guys in New England and ask them what they do about it.
Give a call to Jed's Maple Products, I used to buy maple sugar from him! Matter of fact, maybe I'll get some from him again, I love the stuff! Tell him the NJ exterminator says "Hello!"
