He's not quite living under the house on the ground, but rather he's living between the joists which are a foot off the ground and packed with pink insulation - nice and warm this time of year I would expect since we're heating the room above.
I took your advice and took the trap in 3 days ago and left some small pieces of peanut butter bread out and about the entrance hole and today I noticed 2 of them were gone. While it could be a rat and not a squirrel, I guess I'm wondering if the lack of steady movement (only every few days), and the fact that he didn't visit the trap and only took the food morsels after 3 days could be because its so darn cold (10-20 degrees below freezing)and has been for the whole month of January. I'd rather think its a squirrel than a rat and I'm trying to figure out how I could know for sure.
