I'm at my wit's end. For three years, I have been battling squirrels that are chewing holes in the exterior of my chimney and then setting up home complete with gnawing, urine, play dates, and all sorts of raucous behavior. I've tried spraying bleach, anti-squirrel scent, mothballs, wasp spray, poison, anything I can get my hands on as a deterrent. Several times, I've managed to evict them, patched the holes with steel mesh and spray foam, only to find that they have chewed another hole and taken up residence again. I've just removed trees close to the house, set up a supposed pest deterrent that is motion activated (I swear the little snots activate it just to dance to the noise it makes), and cut down a beautiful oak in the hopes of removing a food source. Nothing. I'm sitting here listening to a squirrel chewing on the wood in between my chimney lining and exterior wall. I knock on the wall and the darn thing growls at me. I'm at the point of ripping down the chimney and sealing up the fireplace. I'd do it, too, if I didn't think the freaking pests wouldn't chew through the house next. Help.
