If the squirrels have kits in your attic, and you have (successfully) screened the mom out, they will generally be desperate to get back in. Watch for that. You might have to trap her...

If the kits die, (3-4 days, of thirst) and depending on the temp, you'll see flies within about 2 weeks, the hotter, the sooner. They will go away in about the same amount of time without you doing anything. Of course, the more kits, the more flies...

Patrol the outside AM and PM, when they are active, or when you hear the. Stand silent, out of their personal space, and watch them, see what's going on.
