Posted by Barbara on 14:15:58 8/4/2007 from 64.19.88.25:

This morning while mowing I discoverd what looked like a colony of termites at the base of a young maple (approximately 30 years old). Beside it around the trunk of a 100 year old maple, from the base, and from what I could see, approximately 20 feet high, were more colonies which when I removed some bark, came to light, literally thousands of insects. There were also some larve and eggs at the base of the old maple tree. Will termites kill the trees - I live in the northeast which has very cold winters - I didn't think termites were located this far north. Thank you in advance for your help.
