Greetings. I am so glad I found this site. It is so informative.
We had a stray carpenter ant around here and there and didn't think much of it. Then we decided to redo the tile in the bathroom. When we took the old tile up around the toilet we saw sawdust all around the toilet and swarms of carpenter ants and their nest as we pulled away the layers of plywood. The toilet apparently had a very slow leak causing the water problem and thus the ants moving in. We completely replaced the entire wood floor, removing the whole nest (which was average size, not large). We examined the crossbeams below the floor and there is no water damage or wood damage. We fixed the water leak.
SO now my question is, it is 2 weeks later and we are still seeing ants but more so, we have dead ants. We vacuum them up and the next day we have to vacuum up 10 -20 more dead ants. They appear mostly near the bathroom but also in adjustment rooms. Are these just lost souls or should we be looking for a possible other nest?
I called an exterminator. The sales lady assured me he would be able to tell if there was still an ant problem. He came in, looked at one dead ant and said he was ready to spray. I asked him to leave!!
Any advice would be great :)
