It really doesn't matter as to the termites. BUT... You should be able to WALK between the bushes and the house. Most builders make the same mistake, planting bushes close to the house without realizing that bushes get BIG. Bushes that close to the house shade the house (not good) and affect the way moisture seeps into the house.

So it isn't really the termites you worry about here. Besides, Hardiplank is just about as impervious to termites as you can get.
