You are correct. The cold would leave them unaffected. And I think the ants probably came in at a later date.

Doesn't really sound as though you have a bad problem, although the ants will take advantage of any minute crevice they can get into. They'll attempt to hollow it out and make it more to their liking, the source of the frass you see. Seal up those small cracks, if you can, although you'll likely not get all of them. Not sure what your "Lambda-Cyhalotrin" is, it sounds like a brand name. It probably contains one of the chiral pyroids. Most of the ready-mixed or aerosol insecticides are junk. To be really effective, it needs to be mixed by the applicator.

Should you require treatment (by a pro) in the future, demand the Termidor/Phantom combination.
