We have been living in and leasing a house for 3 months that we are in the process of buying. According to the owner, the house was termite treated 9 years ago(preventative) and there is a contract with a local company. We have an attached garage that shares a common wall with the house. 3 days ago i noticed termites(winged) crawling everywhere in the garage. After cleaning them up, everyday there was a new crop crawling around. They are coming out of the common wall shared with the house. I have found numerous holes in the sheetrock and in the wood baseboard in the garage. Luckily, they are not coming through into the house. The realtor does not seem too concerned. Just told me to call the original termite company, have them come out and retreat. Well, so how do we know what kind of damage there is in the wall? Of note, there was a slow water leak in the basement in a pipe in the ceiling for quite a while that we repaired. Just not sure what to do at this point. Demand another company come out and inspect? should we cut into the wall and look? Should we even be buying this house?
House is in virginia. Thanks
