Can termites cause a "bad breath smell" in your house?

I started smelling "bad breath" in the area of my sink a couple of weeks ago. I thought it might be sewer gas from the drains where the trap(s) weren't working correctly. But, last night, I filled each side of the sink with a little water and still smelled it so it can't be coming from the drains.

A plumber came out this morning and said he thought it was coming from the window sill area behind the sink and it might be termites. We have had termite damage before but never smelled anything like this.
