Oh, boy, where do I start.... I guess, first of all, where was this “wood” you were talking about? On the ground? Within a structure? No? Then you don’t need termite control to start with.
Naturally, if this is a piece of wood found on the ground, forget it. Save your money, I’m sure you have better places for your money. None of those companies you mentioned would ever tell you that, of course, they are all salesmen and it’s in their best interests to lead you to believe you need termite control, even if you don’t need it. For the most part, I tell people to skip the biggies. You’re far more likely to get one of those salesmen rather than the REAL exterminator you need. Look for a trusted, local independent guy, with a physical office within your local calling area.
And if you’re talking termites in or on your shed, you can also forget about it. Spending that kind of money to “protect” a shed is insane, if you were to ask me.
Next, is why did you not call the company who did the original inspection? They had the last look over there, they would very likely be the first ones you should call. Besides, it’s very likely you have some kind of a guarantee. So if you actually DO have termites (within or on the structure) that company may be obligated to perform the necessary treatments. We would. And BTW, a termite job is NOT an emergency procedure. You could put off any necessary treatment for MONTHS, should you prefer.
As far as treatments chemicals are concerned, if and when you need it, forget all the baiting schemes, go with Termidor, do not accept anything else. Period.
It’s a jungle out there....
