I too had been trying to find this odd chemical smell. It was in the master bed room.
Didn't really smell it until we recently had several days of fog. Cold and damp. Then the smell came from no where. Very potent.
It reminds me a bit of either. The kind from the dentist back when.
Couldn't take it any more. I took furniture off the west facing wall and proceeded to start taking the drywall out. Well behind that I found a 2 inch non insulated hollow wall. Made of wood behind the drywall I bet you all now, what I found...
Termites Been there for years by the looks of things. I have only had this house 6 months. It was left to me. Needless to say I have spent over a grand termites eradicated and under control and on with the 40 feet of reconstruction..

BUT!! The Smell Is Gone.
