Sorry for the delay... Have been out of town for a few days.
You are correct not to worry, and you can just forget about the scare tactics of some exterminators. It's always best to stay away from the biggies, most of those guys are actually SALESMEN, and you know about those guys...
As far as the stumps in the ground, even if you were to "treat" the stumps, there are PLENTY of wooden artifacts in the ground, at ALL times, and termites, especially in NJ are always in the ground, no matter where you go. We have treated for termites in homes less than a block from the ocean, for an example.
Trees and CAs go together like love and marriage, you can treat a tree for CAs and they will always come back. The CAs don't hurt the trees at all, and as far as being "close" to your home, CAs can forage over a hundred yards from their nests, so you would have to live in a desert not to see any. Besides there are CAs (and termites) that live in the desert too!
So be reassured, your life and home are not in any real danger! Take what the salesman says with a few grains of salt!
